Peggy Joyce Smith

Funeral services celebrating the life of Peggy Joyce Smith, 79, a short term resident of The Woodlands, Texas, but a long-time resident of Stillwater, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at University Heights Baptist Church, 323 S. Knoblock Street, Stillwater, with Pastors John Bugg and Paul Jones officiating.  Interment will be at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater. Visitation and viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Strode Funeral Home and then again one hour before the service at University Heights Baptist Church. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Peggy passed away July 19 at St. Luke’s Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born April 22, 1934, in Okmulgee to parents Harry Bivins and Goldie (Walter) Bivins. Although born in Okmulgee, it was Beggs where Peggy was raised and graduated high school before attending Oklahoma A&M College (OSU) where she eventually met the longtime love of her life, Wallace Smith.

She was united in marriage to Wallace on Jan. 23, 1955, at the First Baptist Church in Beggs. They were married for 57 wonderful years before Wallace went to be with the Lord on Aug. 22, 2012.

As those that knew Peggy can attest, she was first and foremost a devout Christian who did all things to please the Lord.

The love she had for her husband and family was kindred to the spiritual love that was evident to all she came in contact with.

Her hobbies were those activities that could serve others, whether it was hosting a church function or bible study in her home, cooking for those in need, playing the piano at home or church, or supporting Wallace during and after his career, Peggy was a servant. Peggy was also known as the ultimate prayer warrior who interceded for many during her life, regardless of how small or large the prayer request.

She had a prayer circle around the world that could be triggered at a moment’s notice. Peggy loved people and people loved her.

Peggy Smith is preceded in death by her parents; a loving daughter, Linda Hunter, who now proudly sits between her two parents; brother, Robert Dean Bivins; sister-in-law, Monta Jeane Gayhart; nephew, Terry Watson; and sister-in-law, Wanda Bivins.

She is survived by her two remaining kids who loved and cherished their mother and the godliness she displayed until the day she passed from this life into eternity — son, Phil Smith, and his wife, Cindy, of The Woodlands, Texas; daughter, Lisa Landburg, and her husband, Jeff, of Catoosa. She is also survived by former son-in-law, Tom Hunter, and his wife, Gail, of Broken Arrow; grandson, Brandon Smith, and his wife, Jessica, of Perkins; grandson, Brent Smith,  and his wife, Alicia, of The Woodlands, Texas; granddaughter, Rachel Brown, of Broomfield, Colo.; granddaughter, Kiley Landburg, of Catoosa; granddaughter, Jennifer Clark, and her husband, Roger, of Vera; grandson, Jared Landburg, and his wife, Shelby, of Chouteau; grandson, Dwayne Hunter, and his wife, Monette, of Stillwater; nephew, Brett Bivins, of Carlsbad, Calif.; nephew, Bill Watson, and his wife, Cindy, of Cushing; granddaughter, Debbie Saunders, and her husband, Greg, of Tulsa; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cheryl, of Oxnard, Calif; and many great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in Peggy Smith’s name to the “Care and Bereavement Committee,” University Heights Baptist Church, 323 S. Knoblock St., Stillwater, OK, 74074; or in her name to the “St. Luke’s The Woodlands Excellence Fund,” 1213 Hermann Dr., Suite 855, Houston, Texas, 77004.

Pallbearers will include Brandon Smith, Brent Smith, Bret Bivins, Bill Watson, Jared Landburg and Roger Clark. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the UHBC J.O.Y. Sunday School Class.
