Sandra Ingram was born Nov. 19, 1942, and died Jan 15.
Sandra Kay Ingram, the eldest of three daughters, was born to Mary J. Thomas (Napier) and Clifford Thomas in Sayre. The Thomas family moved to Stillwater in 1945.
Sandra attended Westwood and Eugene Field and later graduated from Stillwater High School in 1960. In high school, Sandra was lead accompanist and pianist for the quartet, mixed chorus, boys and girls choir and every other musical group at Stillwater High School.
Sandra was President of the Future Teachers of America (FTA), a National Honor Society officer and was the first student from Stillwater High School to be awarded a superior rating for piano in the state competition.
She attended Oklahoma State University from 1960-64.
She initially majored in music and later graduated in education. While in college, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. One of her many Kappa activities was participation in Varsity Review. She was selected to be a member of OSU Angel Flight, an organization founded in 1960 to further the U.S. Air Force ROTC program, which took her to Los Angeles, Calif. Sandra became smitten with Los Angeles, and later attended UCLA summer school.
Having decided to make Southern California her new home, she met and married William Wallace Kazee. They had one child together, Derek Kazee. In 1974, Sandra and Derek moved back to Stillwater, where she lived and worked for the rest of her life.
Sandra was a third-grade social studies teacher for 30-plus years, most of which were at Skyline Elementary School.
As a teacher and single mother, Sandra made a significant impact on many of her students’ lives, as well as Derek’s.
During this time, she also completed a master’s degree in reading.
Later in her professional life, she worked as a realtor and received licensure as a broker associate and as a certified residential specialist. She worked at Grindstaff-Harris and later at Fisher-Province Realty. She loved to travel nationally and abroad and appreciated sampling the various cuisines and desserts of her travels. Sandra continued to be active in Kappa Kappa Gamma’s alumni association and recently obtained her 50-year Kappa membership pin. She was a member of the United Methodist Church earlier in her life and continued her membership in certain professional organizations for teachers.
Sandra and her sister Becky had weekly coffee with close friends to discuss the goings on of the world.
Monthly lunches with her high school classmates always were a priority.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Paul Ingram, who is also from Stillwater. Paul and Sandra were high school sweethearts, reacquainted in 1992 at Sandra’s high school reunion (class of 1960), and have been together ever since. Sandra’s two sisters are Becky Ladewig of Stillwater and Vicki Leonard of Yukon. Her son, Derek Kazee, grew up in Stillwater. Derek, his wife Sandra Vergil Kazee and their 7-year-old son Luke Trinidad Kazee reside in San Francisco, Calif. Paul’s son Rob Ingram and his wife Meredith (Mer) have three children, Maddie, Jack and Katy, who live in Newburg, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to Judith Karman Hospice at www.judithkarmanhospice.org.
