Jeanetta Foster

Jeanetta “Jan” Foster of Tulsa died peacefully at her home with grace and dignity surrounded by family and friends on Jan. 18, 2014. Her death was the result of complications from ovarian cancer surgery in June 2013. This was her second bout with ovarian cancer after almost eight years. Jan was born to V.E. and Kathryn Gawf in Muskogee on April 7, 1941, attended elementary schools in Muskogee and Stillwater and was a 1959 graduate of Tulsa Edison High School. While attending Oklahoma State University, she met and married her husband, R.E. “Pat” Foster, on Aug. 27, 1962. Upon graduation from OSU, the couple moved to Houston, Texas, where Pat began a lifelong career in the oil and gas industry. The couple worked and lived in Plano, Texas; Northridge, Calif.; Lafayette, Calif.; Weybridge, Surrey, U.K.; Jakarta, Indonesia; Sana’a, Yemen, and Dubai, UAE.

While in England, she was active in the Junior League of London where she worked on the Marilyn Monroe Foundation and a period furniture location and restoration in the Brooklands Museum. Brooklands was the world’s first purpose-built motorsport venue as well as one of Britain’s first airfields. During her seven years in England, Sen. Mike Synar appointed her to an honorary position of “Okie Ambassador.”

Jan also owned and operated Ten West, an interior decorating business in Lafayette, Calif.; Not Just Silver in Jakarta and Sana’a where she was known as the “Silver Lady.” Most recently, Jan and her partner, Jo Ann Apt, had a resale business located in Jenks at River City.

Jan was an avid bridge player and participated in a number of bridge groups. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Tulsa and belonged to Tulsa Newcomers, Questers, Hoe and Hope Garden Club and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years.

Jan is survived by her husband of more than 51 years, R.E. “Pat” Foster; son Mike, and his wife, Melak, and their two daughters, Suraya and Janan of Brussels, Belgium; Stephanie Coca and her husband, Erik, and their three children, Katrina, Louis and Bela of Stillwater; Mark Foster and his wife, Klarisa and three children, Nicole, Jack and Kacy of Show Low, Ariz. Jan was “Gammy” to each of her grandchildren.

In addition, Jan is survived by a brother, Ed Gawf, wife Sue of Scottsdale, Ariz.; neice Jennifer Brauer of Raliegh, N.C.; nephew Rev. Brian Gawf of Ashborough, N.C.; brother David Gawf, Pendleton, Ore.; neices Rebekah Facciuto, Gainsville, Fla., and Mandy Gawf, Chicago, Ill., all of whom supported Jan through this latest illness.

A celebration of Jan’s life will be held June 8, 2014, at Camp Loughridge, 4900 W. 71st St., Tulsa, OK. Donations to Ovarian Cancer Research (http://www.ocrf.org/) are requested in lieu of flowers.

The family would like to thank all Jan’s many, many friends, the ICU staff at St John’s Hospital, especially Dr. Montgomery Roberts, St. John’s Home Care and Seasons Hospice for all their help, care and support.
