— Kathy Janelle Bell, 63, passed away Feb. 7, in Stillwater. Funeral services for the immediate family will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel in Mannford with Pastor John Dickey officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kathy was born in 1950, to Paul and Wilma Spess in Tulsa. She attended Mannford High School where she was active in basketball and drama. Kathy received her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and her master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

She was united in marriage to Alan Bell in 1973, and to this union one son, Luke, was born. Together, Kathy and Alan moved nine times while he served in the Air Force before settling in Stillwater upon his retirement.

Kathy’s passion was in teaching, whether it be volunteering, substitute teaching, serving as a teacher’s aide or being a librarian. Most recently, she was the library media specialist at Frontier Public School in Red Rock. For 10 years there, she inspired countless students to explore and develop a love of reading.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Alan; son, Luke; mother, Wilma Spess of Cleveland; father, Paul Spess of Jennings; two brothers, Rick Spess and his wife Barbara of Cleveland, and Paul Spess and his wife Paula of Luther; one sister, Kim Mixon and her husband Charles of Poteau; plus many nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in Kathy’s name to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 902 North Washington, Stillwater, OK 74075 and to Pets and People Humane Society, P.O. Box 850587, Yukon, OK 73085.
