Charlene Bert Lowry

Charlene Bert Lowry, 72, of Glencoe, passed away Sept. 27, 2013, surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Glencoe.

Charlene was born Jan. 2, 1941, in Buffalo to George and Anna Maxine (Wendling) Dickens. While growing up, Charlene attended school in Buffalo and graduated from Fallott High School in Fallott, Texas.  After high school, Charlene worked in Ponca City for a period of time before meeting John Lowry.

Charlene married John Leon Lowry on Oct. 7, 1961.  Once married, they had two children, John and Shon, and eventually settling in Glencoe. They moved all around Oklahoma, Iowa and even out to Las Vegas but always seemed to find their way back to Glencoe.

While living in Glencoe, Charlene had several jobs over the years, she worked at the school and at the local grocery store, but her last job was at Ruby’s Flea Market. Charlene became very well-known while working at Ruby’s.

She would know every person once they walked through that door and try to make their day. Charlene’s interests included taking care of her children and family, gardening, and singing. She would sing country and gospel music.

Many times while attending First United Methodist Church, she was asked to sing solos, because she had a beautiful voice and wanted to share it with everyone.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, George Dickens and Anna Maxine (Wendling) Dickens Younger; and one son, John Henry Lowry. Survivors include her husband, John Leon Lowry of the home; one daughter, Shon (Lowry) Treat and husband, Kevin of Glencoe; daughter-in-law, Virginia Lowry of Perkins; brother, Henry Dickens and wife, Shirley of Glencoe; two grandchildren, Shelbey Treat of Carthage, Mo., Ashley Treat of Glencoe; two great grandchildren, Zariah and Keagan Huerta of Carthage, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Susan G. Komen, in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK, 74075.

Services have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater.
