Dr. Clyde Scott Russell passed from this life at Stillwater Medical Center, in Stillwater, on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at the age of 76.  He was one of two children born to Dr. Clyde Gillespie Russell and Maude Marie Scott Russell on August 4, 1956 in Ironton, Mo. At the time, his mother taught school in a one room school house and his father was in dental college in Kansas City, Mo. Scott grew up in Altus, Okla. and graduated from Altus High School in 1954.  He attended Oklahoma State University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry.  After graduation, he attended dental school at the University of Missouri Kansas City.

On June 20, 1959 he married Ethel Margaret “Maggie” Overholser at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.  He graduated in 1962 from dental school and returned to Altus to practice dentistry with his father, where he practiced until his retirement.

Scott loved life and was a man of deep faith as evidenced through the way he lived his daily life.  He had a great passion for his church, family, friends, and all things OSU. He had many interests such as flying, golf, tennis, snow skiing, fly-fishing, and volunteer service to his church, community and Oklahoma State University.  

During his professional career, Scott was inducted into the International College of Dentists; member of Senator Don Nickels Health Care Advisory Committee; President of the Board of Governors of Registered Dentists in Oklahoma; member of the Central Regional Dental Testing Service (covering 11 states); Central Regional Dental Examiner for 9 years; Admissions Committee for the University of Oklahoma School of Dentistry; member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy; staff member of Jackson County Memorial Hospital; past Chief of Dental Staff and various other hospital committees.  Scott also served in the Air Force Reserve for six years during which he was Commander of the 494 Medical Service Reserve Flight for two years.   

Scott’s passion for athletics and Oklahoma State University was evidenced through his activities, service and awards too many to list but of which a few include serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the United States Wrestling Hall of Fame; President of the OSU Alumni Association; OSU Centennial Advisory Committee; OSU Athletics Advisory Board; Board of Directors of OSU Development Foundation; President of the Jackson/Harmon County Alumni Association Chapter;

POSSE Club Advisory Board; and life membership to the OSU Alumni Association.



He loved his hometown of Altus and was selected the Altus All-American Citizen of the Year.  He served as Past President of the Altus All Sport Association; organizer of the Altus Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as the State Board of Directors; President of the Southern Prairie Library System; President of United Methodist Men, MYF Sponsor and various other church committees; and volunteer of State Special Olympics.  

In 2004, Scott and Maggie moved to Stillwater, Okla. to enjoy their retirement years near their family.  Scott also loved to attend any and all men’s and women’s OSU sporting events where he was a season ticket holder for more than 50 years.  While living in Stillwater they have tremendously enjoyed the fellowship of the Charitus Sunday School Class and seeing their grandchildren graduate from high school and attend college at OSU.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Maude Marie Russell; and his brother Rex Russell of Fort Smith, Ark.  His is survived by his wife Maggie; daughter, Megan Moody and husband, G.T. Moody; daughter Kristen Josey and husband, Kenny Josey, all of Stillwater; three grandchildren; Daireth Elizabeth Klein and husband, Matt of Mesa, Arizona; Ryan Scott Josey and Kiley Anne Josey, both of Stillwater; four great-grandchildren, Katlynn, Madelynn, Irelynn and Tatum of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Judy Russell of Fort Smith, Ark.; and two nephews, Rodney Russell of Fayetteville, Ark.; Randy Russell of Nashville, Tennessee; and beloved aunts and cousins.  

Friends and family will gather for a celebration of Scott’s life at Lowell-Tims Funeral home in Altus, Okla., on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. For those who share his passion for OSU, wear your brightest orange.  Memorials may be made to benefit the General Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma State University through the OSU Foundation, 400 S.
