Carrie Shirley was a lifelong resident of Stillwater, graduating from Stillwater High School in 1942 and attending Oklahoma A&M University. For 35 years, she worked in the Payne County Court Clerk’s Office, retiring as Deputy Court Clerk in 1993. She was active in the police department’s women’s auxiliary, member of Payne County Legal Secretaries, secretary in the Payne County Home Demonstration Office and a member of a home demonstration club.

As a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Stillwater, she was very active in Christian Women’s Fellowship/Disciples Women.  In 2009, she relocated to Tulsa and transferred her membership to Harvard Avenue Christian Church where she has volunteered for the bereavement team and for folding bulletins for Sunday services.

She also volunteered at the Oklahoma Blood Institute where she labeled blood bags twice a month with her Sunday school class.

Carrie was a loving mother and grandmother. She was an avid Oklahoma State University football fan who never missed a game on television and attended numerous games in person before her health began to wane.  She loved to cook and make desserts, travel, socialize with many friends, play bridge, work in the yard and most of all to be with her family.
