Dana Kay Brown

Dana Kay Brown, 72, walked into the presence of her Lord on July 27, 2012. She was born on May 23, 1940 in Stillwater, Okla. She was a proud graduate of the Stillwater High School Class of 1958 and attended Oklahoma State University.  She moved to Oklahoma City to begin a career.  While living at the YWCA, she went to work for Crawford & Company Insurance where she met her first love, James Robert Storment.  He captivated her heart and insisted on marriage, a demand she would not refuse. Married in January 1961, they had 17 beautiful years together and had two daughters before his death in 1979.

While in her early years as a mother she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis—a disease that seemed to empower her to live life with additional dignity, grace, hope and purpose.  She was determined that disability would not undermine her joy and contentment in life. She was gracious and grateful, having an amazing capacity to recognize God’s greater purposes in her life.

In 1982, she was blessed to find love again marrying Jimmy Wayne Brown, who shared her love of words and word games. They shared 26 years together. They were devoted and faithful and he was extraordinary in his care for her until his death in 2008.

She was an avid fan of the OSU Cowboys.  Dana Kay was a pianist/accompanist, had the gifts of hospitality and creativity, was an accomplished Bridge and Scrabble player and enjoyed the activities of golf and bowling. In the more recent years, she challenged her intellect in every way imaginable, enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation, and cherished the time spent with people.  She deeply loved her family and adored her granddaughters.   She was detailed and methodical, graceful and cute, intelligent and humorous, compassionate and loyal, classy and stylish, delicate but strong.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Mark Stanlake, who lovingly cared for her at home; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jeff Davis, Owasso, and her granddaughters, Allison, Lindsey and Madison Davis; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharron and Gary O’Donnell; her brother and sister-in-law, Gordie and Phyllis Daniel; other cherished family members including Lloyd and Maxine Storment, James and Martha Grisham, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Aline (Willett) Daniel, and her two husbands.

Her life was enriched by the amazing men and women who came alongside as true friends, compassionate caregivers and served as the hands and heart of Jesus to her.  Special thanks to Mary Carter for her friendship, for teaching Mom so much at the beginning of her marriage and for being constant for the rest of her days.  We would also like to express our gratefulness to Barbara Welsh, devoted friend, and Winnie Clark, faithful caregiver.

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 1st at 10:00 a.m. Public visitation with the family will be Tuesday, July 31st from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service.  Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, Okla. To share a memory or condolence, visit www.mercer-adams.com.
