Philip Edwin Stout

Philip Edwin Stout, 71, died on Aug. 26, 2012 following a short illness. A    memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at the Stout Family Farm in Perkins, Okla., with a reception       following at Holiday Inn West, 715 S. Country Club Rd., Stillwater, OK. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Philip was born on Sept. 3, 1940. He was the son of Orville and Bette Stout of Stillwater, Okla.  He was a 1958 graduate of Stillwater High School where he played on the football team and ran on the track team.  He attended Oklahoma State University and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.  He received a B.S. in Marketing from OSU in 1963.  Philip served in the   United States Air Force and was a flight nurse in the  Oklahoma Air National Guard, tending to wounded servicemen on the long flights returning from the Vietnam War.  He married his wife, the former Jean Speegle, in Stillwater 48 years ago.  Phil was a talented journalist and a newspaper man throughout his career, beginning on the Alumni Magazine at OSU and as head of Market Research at the Oklahoma Publishing Company.  He also held responsible newspaper positions with the Dallas Times Herald, The Advocate in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the Tulsa World.   He was a lifelong OSU fan and helped organize the modern OSU Posse Club in the early 1970’s.  He and Jean lived in Tulsa for many years while he was a newspaper consultant.  Phil enjoyed gardening on his family farm near Perkins, Oklahoma, and raising Labrador Retrievers.   

Phil is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; their daughter, Penelope, and her husband, Nic Daniels, and granddaughter, Marley, of Mannford, Okla.; daughter, Natalie, and her husband, Steve Coker, and grandchildren, Kylie, Garrett, and Courtney, of Tulsa; his sister, Barbara Stout, of Monterey, Calif.; and his brother, Ronald P. Stout, and wife, Shirley, of Edmond; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
