Gloria Van Leer Parker Confer

Gloria Van Leer Parker Confer, 90, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Stillwater.. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater. Interment will be at Crestview Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Hot Springs, Ark. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gloria was born on May 1, 1922, in Hot Springs, Ark.  to Cecil Moore and Gladys (Van Leer) Parker. She graduated from Hot Springs High School and attended Henderson State Teacher’s College where she met and married Edwin “Red” Confer. They were married in Hot Springs on Dec. 27, 1941. They lived in Hot Springs until his death in 2002 at which time Gloria moved to Stillwater to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She was very active in civic affairs in Hot Springs, where she served on the board of directors of the Hot Springs Children’s Home and of Hot Springs Animal Shelter. She once served on a Hot Springs grand jury assigned the task of investigating corruption among elected and appointed officials. While in Stillwater, Gloria served faithfully as a volunteer at Stillwater Medical Center. Gloria loved Victorian and Colonial architecture and was quite knowledgeable about it. She was a longtime member of First Methodist Church in Hot Springs, and after moving to Stillwater, she joined Highland Park Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Anthony W. Confer and wife, Carolyn Pope Confer , of Stillwater; daughter, Angela Varnadore of Stillwater; grandsons and their wives, Andy & Carie, Aaron and Jessica, and Michael and Cari Confer of Edmond; granddaughter, Christy Confer of Prattville, Ala.; and great-grandchildren Kendall, Claire, Ella,  Carson, Ashley, Ethan, Madeleine, Preston, Juliette, and Charlotte Confer of Edmond.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
