Robert Elmer Perry was born on March 7. 1940, in Carnegie, to Cecil Aubrey Perry and Doris Leone Hedgecock Perry. He passed from this life on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in Enid, having reached the age of 73 years, 11 months, and six days.
He attended Pawnee Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1958. He also was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. He served in the United States Army and served 12 months in Vietnam. He had numerous military awards including the combat infantry badge. Bob obtained the rank of major before his retirement.
He enjoyed coaching young kids basketball while in San Antonio, Texas, and enjoyed getting up early to take his daughters to swim practice and meets. He enjoyed watching his son, Jason, block an important field goal at a football game, and thoroughly enjoyed playing Santa Claus for his kids and grandkids, as well as for other kids in the community. It was important to him to be involved with the VFW services for fellow service men, as well as personally helping those in need.
He was very close to his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events as well as being their “Uppit.” He also enjoyed watching all sports, as well as fishing, camping and traveling.
He enjoyed unique food and concoctions, used his blue duct taped cane, wore a flower pot hat and red socks. He especially loved teasing one and all!
Bob was a member of the VFW Troop 796, Disabled Veterans, American Legion Chapter 26, Ascension Episcopal Church, Democratic Party and Delta Upsilon.
Bob is survived by best friend and longtime companion, Beverly Davis, Stillwater; children, Jason K. Perry, Oklahoma City; Pamela R. Bishop and her husband, Joe, Spanish Fort, Ala.; Shannon L. Balenti and her husband, Troy, Enid; Brian D. Davis, and his wife, Dawney, Tulsa; Staci R. Cundiff and her husband, Jerry, Ripley; grandchildren, Rebecca H. Perry, Pawnee; Janson T. Bishop, Spanish Fort, Ala.; Sean M. Balenti, Enid; Cade P. Balenti, Enid; Luke A. Balenti, Enid; Tyler F. Davis, Tulsa; Emma K. Davis, Tulsa; Shelbi L. Cundiff, Stillwater; Joshua D. Cundiff, Ripley; Harli K. Cundiff, Ripley; brother,William J. Perry and his wife, Sheila, Pawnee; a number of other relatives and many friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Doris Perry.
Interment will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Highland Cemetery, Pawnee. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Ascension Episcopal Church, Pawnee, with Father Ken Armstrong officiating, under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home, Pawnee, Okla.
