Jacqueline (Jackie) H. Powell passed away peacefully on Christmas morning after a valiant and courageous fight. A memorial service in her honor will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at St Andrews Episcopal Church in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jackie was born June 12, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., to Delta Hoshall. She was raised by her grandmother, Ida Payne, in California, at an early age, and then grew up with her mom in Oklahoma City and graduated from Central High School. It was in her senior year of high school that she met the love of her life, William Powell. She waited for him as he joined the Navy to go fight for our country during World War II. Upon his return in 1947, they married and began their lifelong partnership of love and support. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past August.
Jackie leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Rev. William V. Powell, of Stillwater; daughter, Patti Bonner, and husband, Terry, of Dripping Springs, Texas; grandsons, Ryan and Cory Bonner, of Dripping Springs, Texas; niece, Jane Henrici, and husband, Ryan Koch, of Washington, D.C.; nephew, Bruce Henrici, and wife, Sandy, of Richmond, Texas, and their children, Lindsey and Andy.
She is preceeded in death by her sons, Stephen Allen Powell and Richard Lynn Powell; sister and brother-in law, Holice and Bill Henrici; and mother, Delta Hoshall.
Jackie was an amazing woman, a loving wife and partner, a loving, encouraging and supportive mother, and a proud, doting grandmother. She was creative, very organized, and an animal lover of all creatures great and small. She was the quiet strength for our family. Her smile, sense of humor and compassion for all will truly be missed.
Thank you to all of Jackie’s caregivers who took special care of her and helped her through her journey especially Nancy Langwig, Eloise Triplett, Darla Smith, Judy Clay, the staff at Stillwater Medical Center 5th floor, and Dr. Todd Green. There were so many angels who helped Jackie and Bill; you are all so special and very much appreciated.
Memorials may be given in her name to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 507, Perry, OK 73077, or Stillwater Humane Society, 1710 S. Main, Stillwater, OK 74074.
