Vivian Melissa Gray Cagle

Vivian Melissa Gray Cagle went peacefully to be with Jesus on Friday, Jan. 18th, 2013. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Stillwater with the Revs. Don Laughlin and Tim Walker officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home. Viewing will be Wednesday morning at Strode Funeral Home.

Vivian was born the second of four children to Eldridge and Mona Gray in Purcell. She began school in the one room Arnold View School and graduated from high school in Wayne.  Although a girl, she worked alongside her brothers on the farm and alongside her mother in the kitchen. She also mothered her youngest brother, 16 years her junior.

After graduation, Vivian attended Oklahoma Baptist University. She then worked for the McClain County National Bank in Purcell and later the First National Bank of Paul’s Valley. It was in Paul’s Valley that Vivian met John Cagle on a blind date. After a brief courtship, they married and have remained devoted for 55 years. They eventually moved to Stillwater where they lived in the house they built for 45 years across the street from the dear Robinsons.

Vivian was a dedicated Christian woman and church servant. Her gift of administration was put to use when she became the business administrator of the First Baptist Church of Stillwater, a position she was honored to hold for 18 years. First and foremost, however, Vivian was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Those roles were the ones she cherished.

Her parents, Eldridge and Mona Gray and two brothers, Jessie Walter Gray and Robert Eugene Gray, preceded Vivian in death.

Vivian is survived by her husband, John Cagle, her daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Parker Strickland, and two grandchildren, Link and Gray Strickland, all of Tulsa. Her brother and sister-in-law, Joell and Gaylon Gray, of Purcell, and sister-in-law Wanda Gray of Maysville, also survive her. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews and a special extended family member, Debby Strickland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Stillwater Building Fund or Metro Christian Academy of Tulsa.

Condolences may be sent to the family and an online obituary viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
