Steven Lawrence Moody

Steven Lawrence Moody, 69, passed away in his sleep on Jan. 17, 2012, in the home of his daughter, Alyssa May in Frisco, Texas.  His daughters heroically gave him CPR until EMSA arrived and took him to the hospital.  He left behind his wife and soulmate of 17 years, Susan Moody, his daughter, Jennifer McDonald, his daughter and son-in-law, Alyssa and Aaron May, his step-sons, Brian & Jason Taylor, and three beloved grandsons, Brady McDonald and Caden and Preston May.  His former wonderful wife of 26 years, Cindy Moody, with whom he had Alyssa and Jennifer, predeceased him by four days.

Steve was born in Riverside, Calif., where his father worked as a tank welder building battleships during World War II.  He went to school in Shawnee, Okla., until the eighth grade when his family moved to Drumright, Okla. He graduated from Drumright High School where he was known for playing quarterback for the Tornadoes and being a general all around nice guy.  His secondary education was completed at North Eastern Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University.

He had a varied career, working for Travelers Insurance before being hired as one of the front men for Governor David Hall, a job that solidified his commitment as a lifelong Democrat.  In 1975, he moved to Stillwater, Okla., where he worked at the OSU Alumni Association and later became a Farmers Insurance Agent for 20 years. After moving to Tulsa, Okla., he became a history, government, and speech teacher as well as the debate coach for Charles Page High School for Seven years.  He often said it was the job he loved most because of all the wonderful students with whom he was privileged to laugh, learn and stay young.

His memorial service will be at All Souls Unitarian Church at 2952 S. Peoria Ave.; Tulsa, OK, on Saturday, Feb. 2nd at 2:00 p.m.  Donations can be given to the All Souls Scholarship Fund.  Flowers may be sent to the church starting on Friday, Feb. 1st.
