Cynthia J. Nelson, 64, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013, in Tulsa. Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. Dr. B. Gordon Edwards and Leah Hrachovec will be officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Aug. 27, 1948, to Bill Hahn and Pat Hahn. She attended Classen High School where she received her diploma in 1966. After working on her associate degree, Cynthia had several jobs and she met John Nelson while she worked as a professional assistant for the chief purchasing agent for the Daily Oklahoma newspaper. She married John on Feb. 15, 1974 in Stillwater. After her marriage to Nelson, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they lived for five years with their son, Sean. She was a past President of the Cimarron Valley Quilt Guild. She also directed one of the largest quilt shows at the Payne County Expo Center. She was very proud of her affiliation with the Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. She enjoyed serving on several committees. She also served as a board member of Starting Point II. She was very active and involved in raising her son and grandson. She would often sing Sweet Baby James to get them to sleep.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mike Hahn.

She is survived by her husband, John Nelson; son, Sean M.K. Nelson Sr.; grandson, Sean M.K. Nelson Jr.; sister, Margaret Irwin, of Plano, Texas; and her grandson’s mother, Sonya Nelson, of Stillwater.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the First Presbyterian Church, 524 S. Duncan, Stillwater, OK, 74074.
