Frances Elizabeth Bicket passed from this life on Feb. 12, 2013, at her home in Stillwater after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Walker officiating. Services are under direction of Strode Funeral Home.
Frances was born on Oct. 16, 1930, in Collinsville to Francis W. Kannady and Alpha Mae Hilderbrand. She grew up on a farm near Bixby, and graduated from Liberal Mounds. She attended Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater and met her sweetheart Lecil on the steps of Murray Hall. She married Lecil Ray Bicket on Feb. 18, 1951, in Bixby. Frances and Lecil lived in Lawton from 1953 to 1964 where they operated a Phillips 66 Service Station and later Liberty Heights Food Store. In January 1964, they moved to Stillwater to manage University Manor apartments for Liberty Preston. In 1974, they purchased the Preston Real Estate Agency from Liberty. Frances and Lecil purchased a Century 21 franchise in 1976. They were co-workers and real estate brokers of Century 21 Global Realtors until 1997when their daughter Linda and her family came back to Stillwater to operate the business. They continued to stay active in real estate listing, selling and managing property until her illness kept her home last summer.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Stillwater, Altrusa International of Stillwater, ABWA and BPW, and a member of the local Board of Realtors. Frances will be fondly remembered for sending birthday cards and gifts to many family and friends and her “famous” chocolate sheet cake she made for agents in the office.
Frances is predeceased by her mother, Alpha Mae; father, Francis; stepmother, Corine; two sisters, Delores Grace Porter and Patricia Sue Kannady Stevens; two nephews, Mike Kannady and Carl Porter; and brothers-in-law, George Knight and George Porter.
She is survived by her husband, Lecil, of the home; daughter, Linda Elizabeth Schmidt, and her husband, Mike, of Stillwater; granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Grizzle, and her husband, Jeff, of Stillwater; granddaughter, Megan Lee Schmidt, of Moore; and one great-granddaughter, Annie Grizzle. She is also survived by her brother, Bill Kannady, and his wife, Wanda, of Sheldon, Mo.; brother, Don Kannady, of St. Charles, Mo.; sister, Margueritte Knight, of Tulsa, Okla.; and brother, Jim Kannady, and his wife, Peggy, of Bixby.
