Barbara Jean Burt

Barbara Jean Burt, 80, went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2012 in Stillwater, Okla. There will be a visitation from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Strode Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater.

Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Oklahoma City. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara was born on Sept. 28, 1931 to William McKinley Hart and Sabina Louise Dubuque. She attended Classen High School, Oklahoma City, where she met and married Scott Franklin Burt in 1951, and they later had five children.

Barbara and Scotty moved to Stillwater in 1974, and owned and operated Smokey Joe’s BBQ Restaurant until 1993.

Barbara loved her family and friends, music, theatre, crafts, books and held a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.  She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Town and Gown Theatre, and Stillwater Community Singers.

Barbara, AKA “Mama Burt”, has been described as “the biggest little person” you would ever meet and will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Scotty; and brothers, William Hart, Jr., B.D. Hart and George Hart.

Barbara is survived by her children, Beverly Elkins, and her husband, Denny, Edmond; son, Larry Burt, and wife, Sherry, Bedford, Texas; daughter, Leslie Miller, Piedmont; son, Chris Burt, and wife, Shameka, Stillwater; and daughter, Tracy Stabach, and her husband, Chuck of Keller, Texas. Barbara is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Max Miller, Shelby Miller, Teresa Burt, Sierra Burt, and Travis Elkins; and many nieces and nephews.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Barbara’s name to Stillwater Community Singers, c/o Judy Brown, 316 S. Doty, Stillwater, OK 74074, or the Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S. Duck, Stillwater, OK 74074.
