Glendola Louise Pettit

Glendola Louise Pettit, 84, died Sept. 28, 2013, in Cushing. There may be a memorial service at a later date. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on July 27, 1929, to Samuel Arthur and Emma Irene (Karr) Brown in Chandler. She attended two years at Davenport Elementary and three years at Chandler schools. She moved in 1940, at the age of 11, to Stillwater where she graduated from Stillwater in 1947. She worked at Stillwater Laundry from the age of 11 until she was 28. She married Frank Earl Downey of Stillwater at the age of 18. The couple moved to Pauls Valley where she managed Hester’s Restaurant for almost two years. The couple later divorced.

Later, she married Richard Allen Blevins. They lived in Santa Monica, Calif., for three years, and she worked at Kress Clothing as a clerk. They moved to Kansas, where she worked as a waitress at Town & Country Steak House, and then at the Sands Restaurant. The couple later divorced.

Glendola moved to Stillwater, and met and married Charley Francis Potter. She worked for Stillwater Laundry and at Rosewood Nursing Home as a cook/dietitian for 12 years. She also worked for Burns Security as an Armed Security Guard for 12 years. Later, she worked for J.C. Penny’s for six years as a sales clerk. She then worked for D.H.S. caring for the elderly and dabbled in real estate. Charley died on Sept. 14, 2000. Glendola married Harley Pettit in 2010. Glendola was accomplished at playing the guitar and enjoyed dancing and singing.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Emma Brown; two sisters, Christene Angela Brown and Margie Imogene Myers; step-brother, William Ray Black; and her husband, Charley Francis Potter.

She is survived by her husband, Harley Pettit; son, Larry Franklin Downey; daughter, Linda Sue White; two step-daughters, Donetta Shanna Man and Louise Jalawi; and two step-sons, Kenneth Doolin and Gary Doolin.
