(Mary) Sue Herndon

(Mary) Sue Herndon, 91, died on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2012 in Stillwater, Okla.  Memorial services are 2:00 P.M.,  Monday Afternoon, Aug. 27, 2012 at University Heights Baptist Church, Stillwater, Okla.  Reverend John Bugg will officiate.

Sue was born Oct. 15, 1920 in Nashville, Ark., to Cleade H. and Ruth (Stephenson) Herndon.  She graduated high school in Nashville, Arka., before earning her B. S. in Home Economics, Food and Nutrition from Texas Women’s University, Denton, Texas.  She furthered her education with an M.S. (specializing in household equipment) from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.  

Ms. Herndon was employed in various capacities:  dietician in Texas, utility company specialist in Ark., and taught housing and equipment at University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Ill.

In 1964, Sue came to Oklahoma State University joining the faculty in the College of Home Economics where she taught Housing, Equipment and Consumer Resource Management.  She later became OSU Extension Specialist in Housing and Equipment.  She retired as Associate Professor in 1986.

Due to her generosity, the Mary Sue Herndon Endowed Scholarship for students in Human Sciences was established in 2011.  Sue was a faithful and supportive member of University Heights Baptist Church.  She was involved in many associations:  AAUW, Pilot Club, Retired Teachers Association, OSU Emeriti, Research Clue, Book Club, Gamma Phi Beta, AHEA, OHES, College Educators – Home Equipment, American Consumer Credit Institute.  She enjoyed OLLI and volunteering at Stillwater Medical Center.  

She is preceded in death by her parents.  Sue is survived by cousins and many friends.  

Memorials can be sent to Judith Karman Hospice at P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076, or University Heights Baptist Church at 323 S. Knoblock St., Stillwater, OK 74074.  Strode Funeral home has been in charge of the arrangements.
