Stanley Ray Fisher

Stanley Ray Fisher was born May 7, 1946, in Louisiana. Ray passed from this world on Jan. 22. Final arrangements are being handled by Strode Funeral Home of Stillwater. Fisher’s body will be donated to science, according to his wishes. Remains will be cremated.

His parents’ identity are unknown. He was placed in a Catholic orphanage, at birth, where he was given his name.

He stayed there until about the age of 6. At some point, he entered into foster care, possibly across the border into Texas. Little is known of his childhood or adolescent years.

Memorial services will be held at the Cross Brands Cowboy Church at the Payne County Fairgrounds Expo Center at 1 p.m. Sunday.

He joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving an honorable discharge. Ray’s favorite humor was telling how to test the quality of coffee, by G.I. standards: Place a spoon in the cup, if it stands up in the middle, its good.

Ray, as most called him, loved country music and Cajun walk dancing.  

His joy was working with his church family of Ponca City and Stillwater.  

He was a member of Life Church and Cross Brands Cowboy Church.

Ray overcame alcoholism early on, staying clean for more than 30 years. He fostered several children.

Ray also served as a home health care live-in caregiver through Baptist Integris Medical Center for eight years.

He owned and operated a landscaping business for a time.

He worked for Central Christian Church Camp in Edmond, where is met his closest friend, Linda Wilson, at the church’s 50th anniversary.

At different points in his life, he lived in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Ponca City, Cushing and Stillwater.

Stanley Ray never married, and has no known living relatives. He is survived by his closest friend, Linda Wilson, his church family and other friends and acquaintances.

Ray’s absence will be felt by many friends and acquaintances.

They all rest in the sweet assurance that he rests in the arms of his Loving Savior Jesus Christ.

Memorial contributions to assist with services may be made in his name to the Family Memorial Fund, c/o Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan, Stillwater, OK, 74074.
