Calvin Vick

Calvin Vick passed peacefully from life into eternity on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Clarehouse in Tulsa. Calvin was born to Dourel and Mildy on Jan. 27, 1927, in Payne County, Henry Township, Oklahoma. He attended Booker T. Washington School in Stillwater.

Calvin married Clara Marie Hampton and the two of them reared their four children: Sharon, Randle, Ralph and Ruben in Stillwater. Prior to marriage he had a son, Calvin Jr., and during the marriage he and Clara kept two foster sons, Willie and Tommy.

Calvin was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where early on he served as president of the Baptist Young People’s Union. Calvin was passed to the degree of Master Mason of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge and was a member of the American Legion, having served in the U.S. Army.  

He worked both for the OSU Student Union and Southwestern Bell Corporation from which he retired in 1985 after 35 years. He also was a member of the Pioneers Union.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Dourel “Doll” Vick and Mildy S.C. Briarsen; three brothers, Gable and Lee McGlory and Melvin Vick; one sister, Jessie Ann Atkins; and another family of siblings: Alfred, Ethel, Mable, Velma and Vivian.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Clara Marie; his daughter, Sharon Prince (Granville); his sons, Randle (Staci), Ralph (Brenda), Ruben (Sharon) and Calvin Jr.; special “other” daughters, Oletha Murry and Verla Honesty (Ronald); cherished grandchildren and great grands, devoted nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Vick’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stillwater with Rev. Calvin Miller officiating.
