Dana Russell Shelley

Dana Russell Shelley, age 68 a longtime Yale resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at his home in Yale with his family by his side.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Yale.  Brother Mich Dershem will officiate.  Interment will follow at Lawson Cemetery, Yale.   

 Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Yale, Okla.

 Dana was born on Oct. 6, 1943 in Oilton, Okla., to John Russell and Opal Claudine (Bias) Stepp.  Dana’s father died serving his country in 1945, his mother later married his step-father James Samuel Shelley, who adopted and raised him.

Dana grew up in the Blackwell/Perry area, moving to Yale in the seventh grade.

He graduated from Yale High School in 1961.  While growing up, he was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he attended with his parents.  He began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone where he worked his way up to management. Dana retired in 1991 from the telephone company.  Shortly after leaving the telephone company, he traveled to Africa, working for Welbrow Company, an optic communications company, for three months.  After retirement, he and his friend Jim Smith started S & S Telephone, several years later he and his schoolmate J.W. Lorett were partners in Tulsa Inspection Resources.  Dana married Rhonda Colberg on April 1, 1977 in Perry, Okla.  They were members of Western Heights Baptist Church in Cleveland for a few years then later became members of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Yale.  He loved to bird hunt, golf, fish and play ping pong.  Dana enjoyed living life to the fullest, whether it be dreaming or adventures, meeting everything he did with full force.  They especially enjoyed taking their grandchildren on vacations throughout the years.

 Dana is survived by his wife Rhonda Shelley of the home, mother Deanne Shelley of Yale, children Russell Shelley and finance’ Asia Marshall of Yale, Brad Mills and wife Bethany of Oilton, Kris Collier and husband Carey of Cushing, Toni Winterbottom and husband Steve of Yale, brother James “Keith” Shelley of Tulsa, sister Roxann Gooch and husband Robert of Kelleyville, grandchildren Kaylee, Carly, Karson, Dryden, Jake, Konner, Dalton, Jayme, Devin, Madalynn, Shiloh, Lily and Cooper, and other relatives and lifelong friends.

 He was preceded in death by his father Russell Stepp, step-father James Shelley, sister-in-law Cindy Shelley.
