Clara Lou Simnitt Smith

Clara Lou Simnitt Smith passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, in Tulsa, Okla. at St. Francis Hospital at the age of 62.  A graveside service will be held at Lawson (Quay) Cemetery in Yale, Okla. at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.  Dr. Tim Walker of the First Baptist Church of Stillwater will be officiating.  Services are under the direction of the Strode Funeral Home of Stillwater.

Clara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. “Jim” Smith, Jr.  They met at Smith’s Café which was located for many years on the northeast corner of 6th and Main in Stillwater.  When he closed the café, he founded Action Real Estate Agency and AREA Property Management in Stillwater. Clara earned her real estate license so she could work with her husband.  Clara also earned her bail bonds license.  Both were bondsmen for his company Jim Smith Bail Bonds in Stillwater.

The daughter of the late Clarence L. Simnitt of Stillwater and previously of Yale and Juanita Marie Wright of Yale, Clara was born in Yale on Aug. 1, 1950.  She attended schools in Okla. and in Blythe, Calif.  She earned her cosmetology license in Stillwater.

Clara was united in marriage to Jim Smith on June 30, 1970. They enjoyed 24 years of marriage until his passing in 1994. She is the stepmother of four children: James Richard Smith III (Shannon) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jamie Ron Smith of The Colony, Texas, Jodi Rae Smith Poore (Larry) of Spring, Texas, and Jason Russell Smith (Sonya) of Jenks, Okla.

Clara is the grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Jesse and Crystal of Stillwater, Alecia of The Colony, Texas, and Jillian of Jenks, Okla., Saundra of Stillwater, Clint Baxter of the Tulsa area and Lauren Baxter of the Oklahoma City area, Ryan and Amber DiGiovanni and Rebecca Poore of Spring, Texas. She has seven great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Brooklyn, Logan, Jaxtyn, Isabella, Hugh, and Henry.

She is survived by her sister, Connie Sue Smith, of Pawnee; her brother, Jerry, of San Francisco, Calif.; and her brother, Danny Elliott, of Perry, Okla.

Clara is also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Keith Simnitt.
