Ruth Dooley, a lifelong Ripley area resident, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013, in the Rolling Hills Care Center, Catoosa at the age of 93 years.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing,  and will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013, in the Mehan Union Church, Mehan, with Rev. Larry Eslinger officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.  The Dooley family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Mehan Union Church’s Music Department or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6465 S. Yale Ave., Suite 312, Tulsa, OK, 74136, in Ruth’s name.

The daughter of the late Sammuel V. Williamson and Augusta (Merydeth) Williamson, Ruth was born on Jan. 16, 1920, in Ripley. She was reared and educated in Ripley, graduating with the class of 1937. She was united in marriage to Leo M. Dooley in 1937 and to this union three children, Marilyn, Sam and Dot, were born.

Ruth had a love for music that stretched her entire life. She began playing the piano at the age of 5 and had last been videoed playing for folks in the nursing home last year. Throughout her life Ruth played in many different “venues” from Mehan Union Church, Ripley Baptist Church, graduations, to the Taco Hut in Cushing on Saturday nights. Her passion was being a music instructor but she also worked for the Ripley school system as a teacher’s aide and as a cook and was a clerk at Peters Department Store in Cushing. Ruth also put in many long hours on the family farm. In her spare time she loved to spend time with family, mostly traveling with family to area lakes, the mountains, or to Florida.  But Ruth was always ready to go on a road trip.

Survivors include her three children, Marilyn Morris and her husband Alvie of Cushing, Sam Dooley and his wife Jane of Pryor, and Dot Tietz and her husband Keith of Ripley; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Leo; one sister, and two brothers.
