Tom J. Johnson, age 58, resident of Stillwater, passed away July 30, 2012.

He was born in Woodward, Okla., Dec. 7, 1953 the youngest of five children to Alice and H.M. Johnson. His early childhood was spent in Canyon, Texas. In his 6th grade year his family moved to Paxton, Ill. He graduated from Paxton High School where he was involved in football, drama, and National Honor Society. This is where he met “the love of his life” Ellen Lavern Sanders.

They married June 22, 1974 after he graduated from Illinois Commercial College.

They were blessed with five children: Matthew    Clayton, 34, married to Shannon, John Benjamin, 31, married to Amanda, Samuel Evan, 24, married to Abby, Peter Nathanael, 20, and Sarah Jane, 18.

Tom began his career in athletics at the University of Illinois. He then worked for Paciolan systems and their family moved to Long Beach, Calif.  Later he accepted the position of Athletic Ticket Manager at the University of Southern California where he worked for seven years. After that he continued his career at Southern Methodist University until 1998 when he came to Stillwater, Okla. He finished his career as Assistant Athletic Director of Ticket Operations at Oklahoma State University.

Tom loved God and he loved people. He especially enjoyed watching his children living successful lives. He loved being a grandpa to Matalyn and Eli.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dan Johnson. He is survived by his wife and children, two sisters, Mary Werner (Charles) of Paxton, Ill., and Sue Vitovsky of New Braunfels, Texas, and a brother, Mike Johnson of Decatur, Ill., plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at LifeChurch      1917 N. Country Club Rd in Stillwater, OK at 3pm on Aug. 3. If you prefer in lieu of flowers you can make a donation to the family.
