Glenna Bell (Spillars) Martin

God called Glenna Bell (Spillars) Martin, 78, home on Nov. 11, 2013. No more darkness, or sorrow, or pain for her now. Eternal light, joy and peace await.

She had been in ICU for 30 days at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, suffering with severe pulmonary distress plus other serious health problems.

Glenna was born in Vinco, on April 3, 1935, to the late Lourn Spillars and Bessie (Myers) Spillars. She was one of eight children.

She graduated from Perkins High School in 1953.

She loved basketball and lettered three years in it.

She left Perkins in 1954 and her life’s journey would see her holding highly responsible personnel positions with large corporations, such as Hotel Adolphus in Dallas, Ryan Aeronautical in San Diego and General Atomic in San Diego.

She married Ralph T. Martin in San Diego on April 1, 1972. Each would bring a son into this union.

She possessed a very strong private personality, going to great lengths not to draw attention to herself.

Her passion was her home and her family. She was very protective and “family first” oriented, especially where her granddaughters were concerned.

She is survived by her husband of the home, Ralph T. Martin; two sons, Lance H. Martin and his wife, Helen, of Stillwater and Ralph E. Martin and his wife, Kimberly, of Cincinnati, Ohio; three brothers, Frank Spillars and wife, Judy, of Perkins, Ken Spillars and his wife, Dorothy, of Stillwater, Roger Spillars and his wife, Jane, of Stillwater; two sisters, Kathleen Gardner and her husband, Val, of Stillwater; and Dorothy Hurst of Tulsa,; four granddaughters, Angela Walling of Ponca City, Amanda Martin of Salt Lake City, Utah, Erin Back of Stillwater, and Keri Martin of Stillwater; two grandsons, Timothy Martin and Gregory Martin of Cincinnati, Ohio, plus nine nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church of Perkins at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, with Minister David Pock officiating, followed by interment at Perkins Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in Glenna’s name, to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

Condolences may be sent to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
