Terry John Major

Terry John Major died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the age of 59. Terry was born in Marshall on Feb. 22, 1954, the younger of two sons born to Virgil Leroy and Wallace Margaret (Griffey) Major.  He helped his dad farm wheat, cattle and hay west of Orlando, attended Orlando Public Schools and was a lifelong resident of the Orlando-Stillwater area. He worked at Swan Rubber until the plant closed and then worked at both National Standard and Mercury Marine before going to work for the Stillwater Post Office in 1985. Terry always went the extra mile to help out his co-workers, customers and friends. He had a way of making you feel like his best friend and will be greatly missed.

Terry also had a passion for his hobbies, whether it was playing pool with his friends, riding his Harley, his many woodworking projects, repairing or restoring old cars and trucks, or just doing work with his rebuilt and restored D-14 Allis tractor. Terry was also known as “Bumpy,” a nickname given to him by his grandson which he proudly displayed on his motorcycle tag.

Terry is survived by his best friend and companion of 34 years, Sheila of their home, son Greg Major and  wife Jennifer of Houston, Texas, daughter Shelly Clemons and lifelong companion Steve LaRue of Edmond, grandchildren Rena Major, Maci Bricker of Houston, Texas, Justin Clemons and his lifelong companion Emily of Edmond, Jamie LaRue and Steve LaRue Jr. of Edmond, great-grandchildren Carlos Jackson and Talea Clemons of Edmond. Terry is also survived by his brother Dale Major and wife Cheryl of Orlando along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family has requested that donations be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Valley Cemetery northwest of Mulhall with Pastor James Tucker officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
