Shirley Mae Varble

Shirley Mae Varble, 62, died on Sunday, June 2, 2013, in Tulsa. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Ripley with Pastor Arron Grantz officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley was born in Richland, Ky., on Feb. 13, 1951, to Stanley and Jessie (Patterson) Decker. She attended Caneyville High School and earned her G.E.D. She married James A. Varble in Louisville, Ky., on Feb. 20, 1974. They had three children together before they divorced in 1980. Shirley was the manager of the Maveric Mini Mart in Ripley, and was also a councilwoman on the Town of Ripley Board of Trustees. She enjoyed going to casinos and visiting Branson. She loved Neil McCoy’s music, her rosebushes, and she was a lifelong “Days of Our Lives” fan. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren; they were her pride and joy.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Patterson Decker; father, Stanley Decker; and brothers, Larry, Carl and Willis Decker.

She is survived by her son, James “Jay” Varble, Jr., and his wife, Deann; daughter, Kitty Marie Varble Durant, and her husband, Charles; daughter, Crystal Gail Varble Watts, and her husband, Kim; 13 grandchildren, Danny Hamm, Justin Varble, Tiffany Varble, Andrea Varble, Brett Webb, Lane Webb, Andrew Webb, Cole Watts, Tyler Watts, Cammie Watts, Tanner Watts, Jordan Taylor and Jayden Webb; four brothers, Lowell, Jerl, and Herbie Decker, and Ronnie Ray Woodcock; two sisters, Ruby Merrideth and Sue Young; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Pallbearers will include James “Jay” Varble, Danny Hamm, Jr., Justin Varble, Kim Watts, Charles Durant and Jerl Decker.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Family Memorial Fund c/o Strode Funeral Home, PO Box 487, Stillwater, OK 74076.
