Euel Boyles

Euel Boyles, longtime well-known grocery man, passed away June 23, 2013, in Cushing at the age of 76 years.

The son of the late Melvin Boyles and Jewel Phillips Boyles, Euel was born on Oct. 8, 1936, in Yale and was raised and educated in this area, graduating from Cushing High School in 1954.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Moss on Aug. 15, 1954, in Cushing, enjoying nearly 59 years of marriage. To this union three children, Terry, Cindy and Jay were born.

Euel had worked in the grocery business for over 48 years, prior to his retirement in July 2000. He had worked for Escotts Grocery for 42 of those years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church; he was a big supporter of the food bank and the AWANA Club.  He was a longtime member of the Cushing Rotary Club, receiving the Rotarian of the Year 1985-1986; he was a Paul Harris Fellow; he enjoyed fishing, camping, playing golf, woodworking and raising cattle and horses. Euel and Carolyn were parade marshals for the Cushing Christmas Parade in 2009.  Euel enjoyed visiting and spending time with his friends and family and he was a member of the ROMEO Club (Really Old Men Eating Out), which meets daily at McDonald’s for coffee.  

Survivors include his wife Carolyn of the home; two sons, Terry Boyles of Plano, Texas, and Jay Boyles and his wife Stacy of Cushing and one daughter, Cindy Peterson and her husband Gordon, of Temecula, Calif.; six grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah, Jeremy, Zac, Hayden and Shelby; 4 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Dale Frank Boyles.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with the Revs. Keith Moore and Kevin Clouse, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers will be, Richard Swanson, J.D. Berry, Jack Daugherty, Tom Harris, Bill Alan, Bill Wade, Larry Caulkins, Oren Jones, Darrell Taylor and Chris Gerfen.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center.
