Barbara Jean Wolf

Barbara Jean Wolf, 76, died on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren in Perkins, Okla.

Barbara was born Feb. 6, 1936 to Flora Kathryn Allison Cundiff and Edward Louis Cundiff in Coyle.  She attended school at Progress School, Okla., and Fullerton, Calif.  She graduated from Fullerton High School and went on to attend Fullerton Junior College. On March 15, 1958, she married Robert Peyton Vaughan in Las Vegas, Nevada. To this marriage three children were born: daughters, Leeanne and Betty Kay, and son, Robert Edward.  In September 1972, Barbara married Gerald Alton Wolf in Reno, Nev.  To this marriage Barbara and Gerald added Dawne Marie and Christopher Rolland.

In June 2000, after 10 1/2 years of service, she retired her custodial duties from the Perkins-Tryon School District only to contribute another seven years as a substitute teacher.  Her memory is strong among the numerous students and will not soon be forgotten as “grandma” to those she taught more than the planned daily lesson.  Her approach to life and teachings were unique and left a lasting impression on the young lives she touched during her time with kids she loved.

Her motherly role extended beyond her own children, yet she played a dual role in her own children’s lives when she actively participated in their extracurricular activities. She seldom missed a football or baseball game and could often be found playing catcher when her sons needed practice throwing a fastball.  She also enjoyed riding horses with her daughters and attended many local rodeo events in support of their interests.

Later in life, she actively participated in the political process by expressing her views and thoughts to the Oklahoma representatives on the local and state levels.  She was known on a first name basis with those she called for her candid discussions on the many topics impacting our community.  Her Democratic views could be appreciated whether they were agreeable or not. Regardless of political affiliation, she could have a memorable conversation on the various topics of the day and didn’t miss a chance to do so.

Barbara is preceded in death by Robert Peyton Vaughan; Gerald Alton Wolf; her daughters, Leeanne and Betty Vaughan; her parents; and grandparents.

She survived by her sons, Robert Vaughan of Victoria, Texas, and Christopher Wolf of Perkins; daughter, Dawne and her husband Rick Mayhew of Kansas City, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren:  Chase and his wife Haylie Reynolds, Eric Vaughan, Kearsten Vaughan, David Garcia, Caleb Vaughan, Payton Vaughan, Tori Ormiston, Sahvanna Hamm, Michael Rush and Carson Wolf.

Graveside services at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coyle, are set for 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, preceded by a Celebration of Life luncheon at Progress Schoolhouse at noon.  Condolences may be emailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
