Diatra Williamson

Diatra Williamson, amazing wife, mother, Gran“D”, and friend died Tuesday Jan. 1, 2013, at Via Christi Medical Center, Wichita, Kan., while surrounded by her loving family.  She had a special relationship with her Lord and was a prayer warrior for so many.

She was born June 17, 1944, to Raymond and Ethel Layton.  She grew up in Blackwell, attending Blackwell schools until graduation.  She attended college at the University of Tulsa graduating with a bachelor’s degree in social work.

Diatra married Robert J. Williamson on Sept. 5, 1965.  They lived in Tulsa while Bob attended the University of Tulsa. They returned to Blackwell in 1969.

Diatra then spent most of her time volunteering for the American Red Cross as an Instructor Trainer for First Aid and CPR as well as a Water Safety Instructor.  She was also an instructor of yoga, which was her passion.  In 1980, she was listed as one of three outstanding Oklahoma Women.

In 1983, she earned an associate degree in nursing, in 1988 an associate degree in law enforcement, and in 1989 an associate degree in journalism, all from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa. For many years, she served as a social worker for Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell.  In 2011, she earned her certification as a parish nurse.

Her hobbies included bridge, traveling, photography, spending time with her countless friends, driving between Louisburg, Kan., and Stillwater, and making memories with her children as she served as Gran“D” to her six very special grandchildren.

Diatra’s motto was:  “I have no yesterdays, time took them away, tomorrow may not be, but I have today…”

This was how she lived every day of her life, doing what she did best, giving of herself to others.

Diatra is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert Jerald Williamson, her three children, Dacia Snead of Stillwater, Acacia (Shane) Brueggen of Louisburg, Kan., and Drew (Constance) Williamson of Stillwater; six beautiful grandchildren, Chisteny and Bryor Snead; Brayton and Sabra Brueggen; and Lily and Layton Williamson, as well as many loving and devoted friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Ethel Layton and her brother Dallas Layton.

Services will be 2 p.m. on Jan. 5 at the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Barbara Ihrig officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin.  Viewing is at Roberts and Son Funeral Home until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Casketbearers will be Billy Dover, Ryan Fedderson, Brindan Shepherd, Richard Tiu, Drew Williamson and Justin Shepherd. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Mark Hallmark, Allen Hallmark, George Sheets, Gary Schuermann and Chuck Sprague.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the college education fund for Chisteny and Bryor Snead in care of Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma  74631.
