Lucille Colby Forman Wickstead

Lucille Colby Forman Wickstead died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the age of 97 in Stillwater.  A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Stillwater.

Lucille was born Dec. 23, 1915, in New York City, N.Y. (Manhattan) to George Thompson Forman and Ella Rebecca Colby Forman while they were on a business trip.  Her family lived in Collingswood, N.J., until the age of 8, when they moved to Irvington, N.J.and eventually Bloomfield, N.J. She graduated with honors from Bloomfield High School in Febraury 1933 at age 17, having skipped a half grade in school.  Because of the Depression, her family was unable to afford further education.

Lucille worked at Westinghouse Lamp Co., in Bloomfield, N.J., as an accounting clerk for 11 years.  On March 17, 1943 she married John Carson Wickstead. When their daughter, Janice, was born, she became a stay-at home mother and was an active volunteer in her daughter’s school and activities. She was an immaculate homemaker and proficient in sewing and several crafts. After her daughter left for college, she returned to the work force as assistant tax collector for Washington Township in Long Valley, N.J. until retiring in 1973.

Upon retirement, the Wicksteads moved to Stillwater to be near their family and were members of First United Methodist Church.  Lucille was a 74-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and especially enjoyed being part of the Second Mile Sewing Group at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater.  She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, and her sister Elinor (“Neen”) Forman Hill.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice          Wickstead Jadlow, son-in-law, Joe Jadlow of Stillwater, beloved granddaughters, Joanna Jadlow of Trophy Club, Texas, and Jennifer Jadlow Durbin, son-in-law Bill Durbin and great-grandson Nicholas Durbin of Allen, Texas.

A special thank you to the caretakers at Golden Oaks Village, Westhaven Nursing Home, Stillwater Medical Center and Judith Karman Hospice for the care they provided to her in recent years.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Stillwater Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 2408, Stillwater, OK 74076 or First Presbyterian Church (designated for the Second Mile Sewing Group), 524 S Duncan, Stillwater, OK 74074.
