Hazel O. Retta Gross

Hazel O. Retta Gross, 101, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Bartlesville.

Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday  at Christian Union Church in Tryon. Interment will follow at Tryon Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on May 31, 1911, to Roy and Daisy Turner Hemphill in Tryon. She attended Sandyland grade school and Tryon High School where she was awarded her high school diploma.  She was later employed by C. R. Anthony.  Rhetta was a seamstress, enjoyed quilting and arts and crafts.  She attended Tryon Christian Union Church.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Daisy Hemphill; son, Kenneth L. Gross;  brothers, Herb, Wayne, and Bob Hemphill; and sister, Laura Hemphill.

She is survived by her grandson, Derek Gross, of Bartlesville; brother, Walter E. Hemphill, of Broken Arrow; and sister, Betty Hemphill Hall, of Tulsa; niece, Laura Ruth Morris, of Owensboro, Ky.; nephew, Ronnie Hemphill, of Okmulgee; and Betty Jo Hemphill of Okmulgee.
