Rose Marie (Walters) Rodman

Rose Marie (Walters) Rodman, 78, of Perkins passed away on Feb. 12, 2013, after a long illness. Rose was born to Dallas H. and Arletta (Sasser) Walters on January 12, 1935 in Perkins. She attended school in Perkins and married Carroll Rodman on June 5, 1952, in Cushing. Rose lived in Ponca City and Bartlesville, but spent most of her adult life in Perkins and Stillwater.

Rose retired from Wilson Chevrolet in 2007 and previously worked at University Heights Baptist Church and Owen Thomas Ford in Stillwater.  Rose took great pride in the work she did and the many relationships she built there, but she was most proud and happy to live for many years on the farm and in the house where she was born. The farm, which was recently designated by the state as a Centennial Farm, was where she enjoyed gardening and entertaining friends and family. Rose also enjoyed traveling with her daughters and other family members as well as cooking and home decoration.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Barbara Cox, Robert “Bud” Walters and Ruth McCreary. Rose is survived by three daughters: Carolyn Brakhage, of Dallas, Texas; Charlotte Delahay and her husband, David, of Bartlesville; and Terry Thurman and her husband, Gary, of Bartlesville. She is survived by her six grandchildren: Stacy Malphurs and husband, Mike, of Dallas, Texas; Nicholas Brakhage of Austin, Texas; Bobby Martin and his wife, Susan, of Bartlesville; Rosemary Whitson and her husband, Kevin, of Bartlesville; Laurie Marshall and her husband, Justin, of Bartlesville; Chelsey Turley and her husband, Rance, of Bartlesville; as well as 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, Bill Sassar, and his wife, Virginia, and their children.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Perkins Community Foundation, P.O. Box 667, Perkins, OK 74059. Donations in Rose Rodman’s name will go toward the restoration of the Methodist-Episcopal Church of Perkins, which both of her grandfathers founded.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 15 at First Christian Church, 119 E. Stumbo, Perkins and will be followed by a graveside service at the Perkins Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
