Kathleen Louise Jones Nichols

Kathleen Louise Jones Nichols, 81, died in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with the Rev. Roy Fleshman officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Ponca City. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

On Oct. 26, 1931, Kathleen was born to the late Thomas Arthur “T.A.” and Nellie Belle (Wood) Gardner in Atchison, Kan., where she graduated, and married Harold Raymond Jones in 1949. Together, they had three children, Larry, Linda and Lisa. They moved to Morrison in 1976, where Kathleen has resided ever since. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage before Harold’s death in 1996 to muscular dystrophy. In late 1998, Kathleen married her longtime friend and neighbor Lloyd Nichols along with his children, Chuck Nichols and Paula Kirkendall. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary (where she held many offices including historian) and many other Morrison community projects. She was also a member of the Morrison Christian Church. Kathleen enjoyed 18 years of employment at Citizen’s State Bank until her retirement in 1998. She and Lloyd liked to travel and host Monday night card parties.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband; granddaughter, Jennifer Renee; grandson, Aaron Kirkendall; and in-laws, Roy and Gladys Filbert.  

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 14 years, Lloyd Nichols of Morrison; son, Larry Jones, and his wife, Terrie, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Linda Nelson, and her husband, Everett, of Morrison; daughter, Lisa Groom, and her husband, Richard, of Van Alstyne, Texas; stepson, Chuck Nichols, and wife, Janene, of Morrison; stepdaughter, Paula Kirkendall, and husband, Jim, of Morrison; sister, Helen Brown, of Arlington, Texas; brother, Loren Gardner, and wife, Joyce, of Stillwater; brother, Warren Gardner, and  wife, Wanda, of Hulbert; and brother-in-law, Roy Filbert, and  wife, Joann, of Topeka, Kan. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Jones, Matthew and Paula Nelson, Mark and Tiffany Nelson, Scott and Kyla Nelson, Michelle and Marcus Meyer, Julie and Kyle Jarma, James and Delida Groom, Justin Groom, Ashby and Kara Kirkendall, Charles and Marlene Nichols and David and Trisha Nichols; as well as her great-grandchildren: Hayley and Ezra Jones, Corbin Meyer, Jacob and Cole Jarma, Mizmi Groom, Daisy Nelson, Brayley and Adley Nelson, Macee Nichols, Emily Nichols, Davey Nichols, Brandi Knight, Brett Holley and Eli and Asher Kirkendall.

Memorial contributions may be made in Kathleen’s name to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 3010 S. Harvard Ave. #322, Tulsa, OK 74114.
