— Sammy Dale Gunter, 66, died peacefully at his home in Stillwater on Sunday. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the New Covenant Fellowship Church with Pastor C.J. Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sam was born on June 2, 1947, in Cushing to the late Robert L. and Dora Mae (Savage) Gunter. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1965 before going on to attend Central State University and then Oklahoma State University. He married the love of his life, Janice Kershaw, on Nov. 21, 1970. Sam was an elder and charter member of the New Covenant Fellowship Church and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was fond of the outdoors, loved spending time around the water and in the mountains, and enjoyed traveling and most of all riding his motorcycle whenever he could. He was also a big fan of NASCAR. Sam was a member and Road Captain of the Land Run Chapter of the Harley Davidson Group. He was never a stranger to anyone he met, and he was a family man through and through.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jan Gunter, of Stillwater; son, Scott Gunter, and his wife, Beth, of Panama City Beach, Fla.; daughter, Emily Collum, and her husband, Brad, of Perkins; son, Seth Gunter, of Stillwater; six grandchildren, Cameron Tyring, Sammy Gunter, Marlie, Macy and Cale Collum, Corbin Gunter and his mother Stephanie; sister, Lois Friedemann, and her husband, John, of Stillwater; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
