Vaunita I. (Rodgers) Smith

Vaunita I. (Rodgers) Smith died at her home in Cushing surrounded by family March 19, 2013.

She was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Ripley to James “Franklin” Rodgers and Theresa Isadora Peyton.

 She graduated from Ripley High School in 1946.  She married Melvin “Shorty” Z. Smith on Sept. 12, 1947.

 Survivors include two daughters, Melva Tipton and husband Everette, Huthcinson, Kan., and Pat Golliver and her husband John, of Agra; a son, James, and his wife Lori, Edmond; grandchildren  Jennifer Knudsen, Phoenix, Ariz.; Jonathan Golliver, McCloud; Elizabeth Golliver, Chandler; Aaron Smith, Chickasha, and Spencer Smith, Edmond; and two great-grandchildren: Andrew Sanburn and Jacob Knudsen of Phoenix, Ariz.

 She worked for Southwestern Bell, Smith’s LP Gas and Jett Gas. In retirement she enjoyed working for Cushing Auxilliary, yard work and travel.  She was preceded in death by parents, spouse and three brothers,  Raymond, Vernon and John Rodgers.

 Graveside services will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery at 2 p.m. on March 25, 2013.
