Irene White Johnson, longtime Yale resident, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Yale at the age of 91.
The daughter of the late Jasper White and Nettie Mae Phillips White, Irene was born on Nov. 28, 1921, in Tahlequah. She moved to the Yale community as a small child and was raised and educated there.
She was united in marriage to James “Jay” Johnson on Nov. 14, 1941, and to this union one daughter Trudy was born. Jay preceded her in death on June 11, 2007.
Irene enjoyed working and taking care of her husband Jay. She retired from the Yale Gas Company after 38 years in addition to keeping the books for the family business.
She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; she enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and friends and was an avid Yale Bulldog fan.
Survivors include her daughter Trudy Shelley of the home; one sister Mary Lou White Armstrong of Jay; three grandchildren, Russell Shelley of Yale, Kristin Collier and her husband Carey of Cushing and Toni Winterbottom and her husband Steve of Yale; nine great grandchildren, Kaylee, Carly, Karson, Dryden, Jake, Konner, Dalton, Jayme and Madalynn; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Doil White and Raymond White, and one sister Delpha White.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. in the Yale Church of God with Mike Dersham officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lawson Cemetery.
