Charles Francis Lamb left this world on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at the age of 102 years.
Charles was born on his home place here in Cushing on Aug. 24, 1909 to Alena and Jacob Lamb. He was the eldest of eight children.
Charles was a very hard working man. He lived all his life here east of Cushing. He went to school at Primrose #1. He went through grade school and then five days of high school until his baseball team started losing.
When Charles was young, he went to church at Primrose School with a Nazarene minister. He farmed with his brother, Phil, and worked at Cushing Refinery until they made enough money to start farming again, because farming was their main interest. He also fed cattle for Rex Winget, E.D. Derrick and in later years for Bob call and Bob Bland.
He loved farming and working with animals. If they weren’t using a piece of equipment anymore, they would take it apart piece by piece and save everything. The bolts and the nuts would be separated by size. He still has most of these things.
Charles saw the transition of horses to tractors. He also spent his later days driving his tractor on the farm, cutting brush and cedar trees, building bird houses and mowing. A lot of that was after he was 100.
He liked country music, especially Bob Wills. He and his brothers would go by Cain’s Ballroom when they took cattle to the stockyards.
Charles was very active until he broke his hip. After surgery, his weak knees wouldn’t allow him to walk. On July 22, 2011, his residence was at Linwood Nursing Home. He will be missed by all!
Survivors include two sisters, Edith R. Moore of Cushing and Ethel Ruth Roberson of Stroud; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Lamb of Cushing and Zora Lamb of Owasso; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his mom and dad; two sisters, Ivalee Cates and Olive Lamb; three brothers, Raymond Jake Lamb, John Phillip Lamb and Dick Alan Lamb and a nephew, John Albert Lamb.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with Elder Conn Sadler officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
