Lawrence ‘Larry’ Vaverka

— Lawrence “Larry” Vaverka, 78, of Stillwater passed away on Oct. 30, 2013, in Stillwater.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home Chapel   Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Larry was born on Nov. 2, 1934 in Hennessey to Joseph and Mary Vaverka.

He was united in marriage to Louella Ruth Russell. Larry worked at Oklahoma State University, Daily O’Collegian for 33 years after retiring in 1994.

He worked at the News-Tribune from 1953 to 1961. He also worked for several months at the Broken Arrow Ledger and Okmulgee County News in 1953, after graduating from OSU Tech in Okmulgee.

He lived most of his life in Stillwater and enjoyed fishing and gardening. His wife, Louella Ruth, were married for 45 years until her passing in February 2010.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Louella Ruth, and one brother Bernard Vaverka.

Larry is survived by two daughters Larrie Dawn Vaverka of Yukon; Terrie Annette Klontz and her husband Kelly of Edmond, three sons Gary Shay Vaverka and his wife Angelia of Stillwater, Jon Kyle Vaverka and his wife Misty of Stillwater,  Kevin Eugene Vaverka and his wife Cindy of Corpus Christi, Texas. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, brother, Joe H. Vaverka of Perry, Bernard’s wife Cordia of Anchorage, Alaska, one sister, Irene Vaverka of Del City.
