Ronald Marion Shellhammer

Ronald Marion Shellhammer of Stillwater, Okla., passed away Sept. 14, 2012.  He was born July 23, 1943, in Guthrie, Okla., to Josephine and Marion Shellhammer.  

Ron grew up in rural Coyle, Okla., having graduated from Coyle High School in 1961.  After high school he attended Oklahoma State University School of Technology where he studied construction-related courses.  He worked as a general contractor for approximately 40 years, and he was the owner/operator of Shellhammer Construction, Inc, until his retirement in 2005.  

On May 31, 1963, Ron married his high school sweetheart, Mary Tomlinson, and to this union his son, Chip Shellhammer, and his daughter Joel Shellhammer Sturm were born.  Ron and Mary later divorced, and on March 3, 1992, Ron married his beloved and devoted wife, Dina, and gained a stepson, Clint Lewis.  Ron loved people and his work, and he was the guy who made everyone's day better.  He enjoyed golfing, and was so thrilled to get a hole-in-one on June 1, 2006, at Lakeside Golf Course.  He played basketball and baseball as a youth, and liked to follow the OSU Cowboys in both those sports as well as football.  He also enjoyed gardening and morel mushroom hunting.  

Ron is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dina, of the home; children, Chip Shellhammer and wife Laura, of Stillwater, Joel Sturm and husband Mike of Tulsa, and stepson, Clint Lewis of Stillwater; sisters Nancy Payne of Guthrie, Sharon Priess and husband Bobby of Coyle, Twila Prough and husband Larry of Cushing, Marilyn Jarred and husband Chuck of Guthrie, and Alice McEwen and husband Richard of Perry; brother Charles Shellhammer and wife Anita of Coyle; six grandchildren; a host of other loved family and friends, and his “buddy” and little Yorkie, Petey.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at Smith Memorial Chapel, Guthrie.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater.  Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.  Visitation will be Tuesday, 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
