Hattie Sylvia Parsel

Hattie Sylvia Parsel, 90, of Stillwater, passed away on May 12, 2013. The family will be at Strode Funeral Home to receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Her final resting place will be next to her husband at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coyle. Hattie was born to Charles Chester Hardy and Hattie Mae Silvers on Jan., 15, 1923, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She attended school in Mulhall through the eighth grade. She married Harry LeRoy Parsel on March 23, 1940, in Coyle. They were together for 36 years until his death in October 1976.

She was known as a wonderful cook and hard worker, retiring from Moore Business Forms after more than 20 years of service. She made numerous beautiful quilts that she entered in the Payne County Fairs. Everyone looked forward to and enjoyed her delicious homemade Christmas candies that she shared with all. She volunteered for many years, cooking Thanksgiving turkeys and trimmings for OSU sororities and fraternities. She also greatly enjoyed games like canasta and Chinese checkers, at which she was unbeatable.

Hattie is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hattie Hardy; husband, Harry Parsel; three brothers; one sister; and an infant daughter, Sandra.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Rae Brown of Houston, Beverly Jo Terrel of Stillwater, Norma Lou Culver of Pahrump, Nev., Judy Kay Stanton of Stillwater, and Darla Smith of Stillwater; sons, Charles Leroy Parsel and Steve Paul Parsel, both of Stillwater; 20 grandchildren; and over 100 great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Her grandsons are honored to be her pallbearers.
