— Delbert P. Schwab, 88, passed away March 23, in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Stillwater with the Rev. Michael Chaffin officiating. Interment will follow on Monday at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Delbert was born on Dec. 7, 1925, in Madison, Kan., to George R. and Myrtle Preston Schwab.

He attended Oklahoma A&M College where he received his bachelor's degree and Oklahoma State University where he received his master's degree, both in agricultural engineering. During his career, he worked at the University of Tennessee, Douglas Fir Plywood Associates, and Oklahoma State University Extension Service, from which he retired.

On Aug. 14, 1948, he married the love of his life, Margie Coyle, in Pawnee, and they were together until his death.

Delbert served his nation as a member of the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he remained in the United States Army Reserves, retiring in 1986 as battalion commander of the 353rd Engineer Group in Oklahoma City, with the rank of colonel. He is the recipient of a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Philippine Liberation Service Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Bronze Star for Valor, Paratrooper Wings and Combat Infantry Badge.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Isaac Waltman League; Cowboy Sams Travel Club; Lewis Travel Club; Stillwater Rifle Club; Ducks Unlimited; Reserve Officers' Association; 11th Airborne Association, and the 511th Parachute Infantry Association.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle Schwab; and sister Ruth Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Marge Schwab of Stillwater; sons, Coyle (Sue) Schwab of St. Charles, lll., George (Lynette) Schwab of Fort Worth, Texas, and Gary Schwab of Stillwater; four grandchildren, Samantha Schwab Bultmann (George) of Geneva, Ill., Jeremy Kistler of Stillwate, Lori Schwab-Uchanski (Mark) of Las Cruces, N.M., and Scott Schwab of Boulder, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Jillian, Matthew, and Harrison Bultmann of Geneva, Ill. and Coyle Uchanski of Las Cruces, N.M.; brother, Carl Schwab of Huntington Station, N.Y.; sister, Doris “Sue” (R.W.) Yeager of Norton, Kan.

Pallbearers will be Scott Schwab, Mark Uchanski, Jeremy Kistler, George Bultmann, Samantha Bultmann, and Lori Schwab-Uchanski.
