Dr. Kermit Bowling, 84, passed away March 19. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 400 W. Seventh Ave., Stillwater.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Fern Bowling; family members, Mike (Kim) Green, Kerma (Dr. Nelson) Wilson, Jayne (Tony) Duncan, David Bowling, Doug (Julie) Bowling; grandchildren, David Green, Kris Beaver, Matthew (Megan) Wilson, Rebekah Wilson, Benjamin (Whitney) Bowling, Will, Julianne, and John Berry Bowling, Zack and Hayley Duncan; two great-grandchildren; Elliot and Esther Wilson; brother, Roy L. Bowling and sister, Christine (Charles) Stringfield and sister-in-law, Ann Bowling; brothers and sister-in-laws, Charles (Jenann) Allen, David (Glenda) Allen; niece and nephew, Dana (Jeff) Davis, Nick (Tracy) Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Irene Bowling; sister, Carolyn Bowling; and brother, Glenn Bowling.
Kermit was born in Clinton, Tenn. He was a graduate of Norris High School in 1948 and a Korean War veteran. Upon returning home from war, Kermit earned his bachelor’s degree from Lincoln Memorial University on a basketball scholarship and a master’s and doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee. He had a career of more than 44 years in education.
His career began in a four-room school in Anderson County, Tenn., as the principal/teacher. He retired with the State Department of Education and spent the last of his educational career as director of Tech Prep at Volunteer State. His last 10 years were spent volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in Stillwater. He served as past president of the Stillwater Habitat Board of Directors.
