William Graham ‘Bill’ Kinnick

William Graham “Bill” Kinnick passed away suddenly of natural causes on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, in Harrah.

Bill was born to John William “Bill” Kinnick and Dovie Joyce Hansen “Joyce” Kinnick in Perry, on June 12, 1937. He attended Spring Valley and Stillwater schools. As a member of Stillwater High class of 1955, he wrestled and played football and basketball. His dad enlisted him in the United States Navy before his graduation from high school.  After attending Great Lakes Electricians Mate Class A School, he served on the USS Rochester BB62. Special permission was given for his brother Chuck to serve on the same ship. After nearly four years of naval service, Bill returned to Oklahoma and went to school at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and later at the University of Tulsa. In December 1958, he married Janet Ilene Hemphill. Son William Floyd “Dub” Kinnick was born in June 1961. A daughter, Terri Kinnick, was born May 1966. Bill and Janet divorced in September 1972.

Bill’s career included time at Nelson Electric in Tulsa.  Subsequently, he started Hartman and Kinnick Sales Agency in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. He continued his electrical sales career in southern California, for Nunn-Royal and All Phase Electric Supply before joining General Electric and eventually moving back to Tulsa. After retirement from GE, Bill enjoyed working with Hemphill Corp. and Kinnick Properties, LLC (formed on the Kinnick family farm east of Stillwater). Bill lived at the The Coves at Bird Island on Grand Lake before moving back to Tulsa once again. His pursuits included travel, fun with family and friends, horse racing, gambling, reading, golfing, swimming, sitting in the sun and keeping up with his ex-girlfriends.

Bill Kinnick is survived by his son, Dub, daughter-in-law, Stephany, and their children, Olivia and Will, of Oceanside, Calif.; and daughter, Terri, son-in-law, Eddie Arnold, and their son, Andy, of Harrah. Bill is survived by all seven younger siblings. In birth order, they are, Chuck Kinnick (Shirley) of Vista, Calif.; Tom Kinnick (Priscilla) of Stillwater; Kara Lynn Rankin (Ed) of Vancouver, Wash.; Annis Stevens of Jones; Melinda Bowien (Jim) of Choctaw; Joe Kinnick (Terry) of Ft. Worth, Texas; and Mike Trousdale of Oklahoma City. Bill will be missed by many “Denieces and De-nephews.” The grandkids will miss their Geezer. People who were extremely special to Bill included Don Garner, Curtis Pancoast, Janiece Distin and Linda Williams.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on at 3 p.m. Saturday at Strode Funeral Home Chapel, 610 S. Duncan St., Stillwater. Please join the family for food, beverages, and music while remembering the good times with Bill at a celebration of his life at Brooklyn’s (in the basement) at 701 S. Main in Stillwater following the service until 7 p.m.
