Dr. Glen Ewell Rehorn Ed.D

Dr. Glen Ewell Rehorn Ed.D passed away on Sept. 18 in Fairfax. Dr. Rehorn was a resident of Ralston since his retirement in June 1996 from teaching as a professor first at Montclair State College in New Jersey, then Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph’s Mo., and lastly the Chattahoochee Technology College in Marietta, Ga. Glen was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Fairfax, the youngest son of Ewell Rehorn, a life-long employee of Texaco, and Rosa Rehorn, in the oil fields of Osage County at Naval Reserve which is near Fairfax He was the third of three children, his eldest sister Sarah Margaret Rehorn Smith, deceased, of Bartlesville and Keystone Lake and Major (Ret.) Henry Rehorn, who currently resides near Mannford. Dr. Rehorn was a Fairfax Red Devil football and baseball player in 1951. He was an All-Conference and All-District guard at a total weight of 170 pounds.

He was an accomplished baseball player and later in life excelled even more in teaching his sons how to play both football and baseball.

He married Barbara Jean Brandenburg of Ralston on Oct. 6, 1956, and remained married until his death. He left Oklahoma to work with Phillips Petroleum in Borger, Texas, before joining the Army on March 19, 1958, serving with the 1st Armored “Hell on Wheels” in Fort Hood, Texas, until 1959.

After his enlisted stint in the Army, Dr. Rehorn attended Officer’s Candidate School at Fort Sill and was commissioned as a 2LT Combat Engineer officer. One of his favorite highlights of his military career was his command time of the National Guard’s 45th Engineer Company in Stillwater.

The men of the unit were World War II and Korean War veterans who Glen respected and felt honored to lead. He eventually retired as a Lt. Col. in the United States Army Reserves but felt his command of the men in the 45th was an unsurpassed honor.

Dr. Rehorn attended Oklahoma State University and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees before a four-year teaching stint at Ponca City High School in Ponca City. He returned to Oklahoma State University to complete his doctorate’s degree in education and upon graduation was offered a position to start a new education program at Montclair State College in Montclair, N.J. He was a college professor for 10 years in Montclair before returning closer to home by accepting a position at Missouri Western State College. Coincidentally, St. Joseph was more suited to his hobby and passion of deer hunting.

Glen was a good husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law. He was very proud of his sons for their success, Wes as an Army Airborne, Ranger and Special Forces officer and Brett as the owner responsible for the establishment of Kilkenny’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in Tulsa.

Glen cherished his time hunting or fishing with his sons, talking “Army” with his grandson Steyer and watching his grandson Parker excel at playing golf. He will be missed by family, friends and a large population of his students who respected and appreciated his teaching and concern for them.

Dr. Rehorn is survived by his wife, Barbara Rehorn of Ralston, eldest son Col. (Ret.) Wesley L. Rehorn and his wife Charlene of Skiatook Lake, Brett Rehorn and is wife Tracy, of Tulsa, and his grandchildren Leia D. Rehorn Charak of Chicago, Ill., 1LT Steyer L. Rehorn of Grafenwohr, Germany, and Parker A. Rehorn of Tulsa,  and Glen’s brother Henry Rehorn of Mannford.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at the Ralston Bible Church, Ralston, with Rev. Roy Emmons officiating.

Dr. Rehorn will be buried with full military honors and representatives of the Patriot Guard Riders in attendance at Riverside Cemetery, Ralston at 11 a.m. Thursday.
