Luella Clark

Luella Clark, 88, died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at her home in Glencoe. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Glencoe Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Glencoe South Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Luella was born on Aug. 3, 1925, at Turkey Ridge, near Walsenburg, Colo. Her parents were the late Harry Leigh, brother of Clara Hesser, and Eva (Hesser) Leigh, daughter of Jacob Egeron and Luella Cahill Hesser. Her grandparents had a lot of influence in her life, and her grandfather, Jacob Hesser, baptized her when she was 12 in a spring on the Van Hesser farm. Luella and family moved to Oklahoma, when she was only a few months old. They lived in the Hesser community and attended Union Home Church until Luella was about 14, and the family moved to California. She married a soldier boy there during World War II, but the marriage was not a success. When her daughter Evalyn was 2 1/2 years old, Luella moved back to Glencoe, and began attending Church of Christ where she met Marion Clark. They were married on April 10, 1952, and Glencoe Church of Christ has been their home church since that time. Luella and Marion had two sons, John and David. John and Karen work at Tulsa Boys’ Home. John is an equine therapist and Karen is a manager in the development department. David works at the Armstrong World Industries in Stillwater. He lives with his wife Alana and their children in Mannford. Evalyn was married to Murle Blanchard and raised their two children in Glencoe. Luella had a wonderful life in Glencoe. Over the years, she received much satisfaction from providing babysitting services for many other families. The joy of her life was being near her children, grandchildren, foster grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and her wonderful Christian husband, Marion.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joe Leigh; beloved daughter, Evalyn Blanchard; and son-in-law, Murle Blanchard.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Marion Clark, of Glencoe; son, John A. Clark, and wife Karen, of Glencoe; son, David M. Clark, and wife, Alana, of Mannford; and sister, Jeanie Young, of Montana. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Melinda and David Ripley of Branson, Mo.; Nick Blanchard of Glencoe; Shara and Mike Campbell of Mechanicsville, Va.; Colt Clark of Glencoe; and Katrina and Austin Gilley of Medicine Lodge, Kan.; Jeffery and Nichole Clark of Mannford; and Shamicka and Steven Mehagan of Mannford; as well as many “adopted” grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in Luella’s name to Good Shepherd at 6218 S. Lewis, Ste. 110, Tulsa, OK 74136.
