Herbert Lee Brown

Herbert Lee Brown, 84, of Glencoe, passed from this life on Sept. 30, 2013, in Stillwater. Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home and a service celebrating his life will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Glencoe United Methodist Church with burial following at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Pawnee County.  Public visitation will be held from 8 a.m to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater.

Herbert was born on Aug. 26, 1929, in Guthrie, to Joseph and Lillie Ruby (Schulz) Brown. He was raised and attended schools in the Douglas area before graduating from Pioneer High School near Enid in 1947. Following high school, he went to work on a local farm for four years before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country for two years and was stationed much of the time in Greenland. On June 18, 1951, he married Patsy Mae Hunter in Covington. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Herbert and Patsy purchased a farm near Glencoe in 1955 and raised their six wonderful children there. Herbert spent most of his life as a farmer and raised crops and cattle on his farm. He was a skilled carpenter and spent many years doing various construction jobs to help subsidize his farming income.

Herbert spent nearly 60 years on his farm and he was very proud of that fact. He loved being outdoors and when he was not farming, he could be found fishing, hunting or watching a baseball game. He was a long-time member of the Glencoe United Methodist Church and made many great friends in Glencoe. Herbert was a loving father, grandfather and friend and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Arthur Brown, Joe Brown Jr. and Victor Brown; and two sisters, Anna Brown and Betty Ham.

He is survived by his children, Darrel Brown and wife, Lori, of Tonkawa, Cindy Staten of Stillwater, Larry Brown and wife, Beverly, of Greenbrier, Ark.,       Paul Brown and wife, Donna, of Glencoe, Ray Brown, of Perkins, and Mark Brown and wife, Jennifer, of Glencoe; two sisters, Maxine Sadler, of Perry, and Elizabeth Baker, of Edmond; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Herbert’s name to the Glencoe United Methodist Church in care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N. Washington, Stillwater, OK, 74075.
