Terry Dale Allen

Terry Dale Allen, formerly of Stillwater, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at his home in Salisbury, Md. He was born in Guthrie on Oct. 5, 1948, to Patricia Irene Hyde Allen and the late Thomas Dale Allen.

Terry attended public schools in Stillwater, where he grew up. In 1971, he graduated with a bachelor’s of science in agricultural engineering from Oklahoma State University. He later received a master’s of science in business administration from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and completed all of the coursework for a doctorate of education from the University of North Texas.

He began his career as an engineer with Cargill, Inc. in Memphis, Tenn., and Fayetteville, N.C. He left Cargill to buy into the family business, Payne County Implement, an International Harvester dealership, in 1975. Later, he worked in several legal offices in Denton, Texas. He retired in 2009.

Terry also was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. Among his military awards were the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Terry was very active at Salisbury University, where he served as advisor to the Student Military and Veterans Association and as a member of the University Varsity Club board of directors. He supported the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and many Sea Gull athletic teams.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dr. Diane Allen; two sons, Thomas D. Allen and his wife, Nina, of Hartford, Wis., and Terry D. Allen Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Tulsa; granddaughter Priya of Wisconsin and granddaughter-to-be Ella of Oklahoma; two sisters, Patta Slusser and Toma Gaches of Stillwater; two brothers, Rex Allen of Enid and Bill Allen of Glencoe; 18 nieces and nephews; 22 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Stillwater Community Center in Stillwater.

Services also were held at Salisbury University on Nov. 2.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either the Terry D. Allen Scholarship for Military Veterans through the Salisbury University Foundation, Inc. or the Terry D. Allen Agricultural Engineering Scholarship through the Oklahoma State University Foundation.
