— Hilary A. Driggs, 92, died on Aug. 25, 2013 in Stillwater. His service will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with pastor Larry Eslinger officiating. A visitation will be held at Strode Funeral Home on Aug. 28 from 7-9 p.m. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hilary was born on June 2, 1921, in Guthrie, to Charlie and Bertha Driggs. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1940 and met the love of his life, Mary Kate Roscom. Hilary and Mary Kate were married in Stillwater on Jan. 17, 1940; they were married 73 years.

Hilary worked at Mare Island Ship Yard, Vallejo, Calif., during World War II. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and was assigned to the USS Xanthus in the North Pacific. After the war, he served the rest of his time as an instructor at the Stillwater Naval Reserve Center.

On Sept. 1, 1953, he joined the Stillwater Police Department as a motorcycle policeman. He worked himself up the ranks to chief of police for the last 10 years of his career. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He retired after 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Berta Driggs; sister, Viola Curry; and two brothers, George and Walter Rust.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kate; two daughters, Darlene and Sherry; five grandchildren, Clint, Jana, Kirk, Dawni and Summer; and six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Landon, Hilary, Logan, Duncan and Trinity.
